JOB DESCRIPTION

Job purpose

To be involved in all aspects of using authoring tools and other software to produce e-learning, web-based materials and custom interactions, to take ownership of Kineo’s client sites and to assist the development of internal training and best practice.


Reporting line

• The developer will report to the Sheffield Kineo Office Project Director for day to day work

• The developer will report to the Kineo Technical Director for technical aspects of the work (standards, development opportunities)

Key Responsibilities

• To take a brief from the Project Manager or E-Learning Consultant, liaise with them to provide progress reports and ensure any work is delivered as required

• To liaise and communicate clearly with learning and technical consultants, graphic artists, project managers and clients to ensure the highest possible quality of product, delivered on time and to budget

• To use the Kineo internal systems e.g. version control, backup systems, project management software as appropriate

• To ensure that project files are set up correctly, organised during the project lifecycle and archived appropriately

• To use the development tools effectively, following Kineo guidelines and standards

• To take full responsibility for the maintenance of specified Kineo client sites

• To keep up to date with new features of the tools and work to use these effectively

• To work with the other team members to ensure the e-learning modules are of the required standard for the client

• To deliver completed work on time

• To flag any issues with the project manager or other team members (as appropriate) at the earliest time possible and work together to solve problems


Key tasks

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a range of tasks associated with the development of e-learning modules. These will include but not be limited to:

• To create e-learning modules using development tools (e.g. Articulate, Captivate, Mohive) and other software used within Kineo (e.g. Flash, Dreamweaver)

• To work to specifications and timescales as provided by the Kineo project team, according to Kineo processes

• To contribute to the development of new techniques and processes to further improve the development process using rapid or bespoke tools

• To provide estimates to complete specific tasks

• To understand and apply the basics of instructional design during project builds

• To achieve the best possible visual look & feel in accordance with the art direction

• To support the authoring and maintenance of the Kineo Academy training materials relating to authoring tools and the best practice in using the tools

• To develop a good working knowledge of interactive design and create engaging, custom-made interactions for use in learning materials

• To carry out any other tasks relating to e-learning development as agreed with your line manager

Key skills

Essential

• Use of software/ICT including:
o MS Office suite
o Windows XP
o Internet

Desirable

• Rapid development tools (Articulate, Captivate, Mohive, Atlantic Link, other)
• Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML
• Basic knowledge of audio editing (e.g. Audacity) and graphics packages (Photoshop or Fireworks) also useful
